Cherry Bars

Bars:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • ¼ tsp. almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 4 oz. cream cheese

Glaze: 

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk or cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°.

Cream butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and almond until light and fluffy.

Slowly add flour and salt.

Spread 3 cups dough into a greased 9 x 13 glass baking dish. Spread with pie filling.

Dot remaining dough by teaspoonfuls and nickel-sized dollops of cream cheese over cherries.

Bake 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Glaze – Mix sugar, extracts and milk – drizzle over top.
